    Benefits of Astronomy Binoculars

There are many benefits to opting for astronomy binoculars, some of which include:

    They’re Powerful & Versatile

All astronomical binoculars feature some of the most powerful optics that you’ll find in a pair of binoculars. Usually, they start at around 10x magnification but can go as high as 70x or more. The benefit of such powerful binoculars is that they will not only allow you to see celestial objects in great detail, but that they can be used for activities outside astronomy.

They Offer Wide Field of View

Astronomy binoculars tend to offer a much wider field of view compared to telescopes. This makes locating and tracking celestial objects much easier. It also allows you to observe larger parts of the sky with minimal adjustment.

    They Allow for Immediate Observation

Unlike telescopes, space binoculars don’t require a cool-down period to adjust to the outdoor temperature. This is great because you can use the binoculars on-demand and for spontaneous stargazing.

How to Select the Perfect Astronomy Binoculars

To choose the right astronomy binoculars for you, there are a few things that we’d recommend you to pay attention to. They include:

    Magnification

To see further in the sky and get a closer view of your target, you need as much magnification as possible. That’s why we recommended that you opt for binoculars with at least 10x magnification.

    Objective Lens Diameter

Larger lenses are able to collect more light, which is crucial for seeing faint celestial objects. When it comes to astronomy binoculars, we recommend that you go for a pair with an objective lens diameter of at least 50mm.

    Your Budget

Due to their larger size, advanced features, and powerful optics, astronomy binoculars are pricier than their smaller and less powerful counterparts. So, before you go out and start looking for potential binoculars for stargazing, we’d recommend that you set a budget that you’d be comfortable with. This will not only prevent you from overspending, but will help you narrow down your options.

    FAQs

The exact way you’ll need to use your stargazing binoculars in the UK (or anywhere else for that matter) will depend on the binoculars themselves and the observing conditions outside. Most binoculars feature an eyepiece diopter adjustment ring and a central focusing wheel. If that’s the case with your binoculars, this is what we’d recommend you to do.
First, adjust the eyepieces of the binoculars to suit the distance between your eyes. Once that’s done, it’s time to focus the binoculars.
To do that, look through the binoculars, close your right eye and use the central focusing wheel to focus the left eyepiece on the star or object that you want to observe. Then, close your left eye and adjust the diopter ring on the right eyepiece to sharpen the focus of the image.
The last step is all about stabilising the binoculars. If your particular binoculars allow, you can use a tripod or a mount. They will dramatically reduce hand shake and provide a clearer view of the sky.

Ideally, you want to buy binoculars with at least 10x magnification and a large objective lens (preferably over 50mm). A pair of binoculars with such specs will allow you to gather enough light to see celestial objects, while the magnification will bring all the details into focus.
That said, you can also go for binoculars with lower specs. However, your stargazing experience won’t be much different to that of observing the night sky with a naked eye.

Depending on the binoculars you buy, we recommend investing in a tripod or a mount (of course, make sure your binoculars can work with one). That way, if you opt for binoculars that offer higher magnification, the shaking and instability will be brought down to a minimum. This will massively improve your stargazing experience.
Other recommended accessories include a lens cleaning kit, a neck strap or harness, and a carrying/storage case. These will help keep your binoculars clean and protected.
